In the Footsteps of the Altai Mountains, Eagle Hunters & Nomadic Life
Upon arrival in Bayan-Ölgii, our team will warmly welcome you and transfer you directly to Galata Restaurant, where your journey begins with a special traditional breakfast.
After breakfast, we will explore the center of Bayan-Ölgii, visit the local market, and discover the surrounding areas. Kazakh culture, traditional clothing, local people, and everyday life will provide our first photographic opportunities.
In the evening, we will gather again at Galata Restaurant for a special dinner featuring traditional and Turkish cuisine. This will be an opportunity to get to know the team and fellow travelers while receiving a brief introduction to the upcoming Western Mongolia journey and itinerary.
Overnight: Bayan-Ölgii

After breakfast at Galata Restaurant, we begin our journey toward the Altai Mountains.
Our route takes us through vast steppe landscapes, rivers, valleys, and mountain passes, with stops at carefully selected locations for landscape and documentary photography.
In the afternoon, we will visit a Kazakh eagle-hunting family, where we begin our first intimate portraits and documentary photographs.
As the day comes to an end, we will spend the evening with a local nomadic family, experiencing their hospitality and everyday way of life.
Overnight: Traditional ger / with a local family

Today is dedicated primarily to photography.
In the soft morning light, we will photograph the eagle hunter preparing for the day, along with the golden eagle, horses, traditional clothing, and family life.
Throughout the day, we will document everyday activities — preparing food, caring for animals, household tasks, and moments shared between family members.
Our goal is not simply to capture beautiful photographs of a golden eagle. We aim to create a genuine visual story of the eagle hunter and his way of life.
By observing rather than rushing, we allow authentic moments to unfold naturally in front of the camera.
Overnight: Traditional ger / with a local family

Today’s program will remain flexible, adapting to the weather, natural light, and photographic opportunities.
We will travel to different locations to photograph eagle hunting traditions, horses, nomadic life, and the dramatic landscapes of the Altai.
Toward the end of the day, we will seek out a beautiful viewpoint for golden-hour and sunset photography across the Altai valleys.
If weather conditions are favorable, we will move away from artificial lights and photograph the Milky Way and night sky from a carefully selected location.
Overnight: Ger / tent

As we travel through the Altai valleys, we will discover and photograph ancient petroglyphs, balbal stones, and other traces of civilizations that lived in this region thousands of years ago.
Today brings together three important elements of the journey: nature, history, and documentary photography.
The ancient rock art provides a fascinating connection between the landscapes we see today and the people who lived here long before us.
Before evening, we will find a suitable location across the vast steppe for sunset photography, capturing the changing colors and atmosphere of the Altai landscape.
Overnight: Tent / traditional ger

In the morning, we will take our final photographs of the surrounding landscapes and nomadic life before beginning our journey back toward Bayan-Ölgii.
In the evening, we celebrate the end of our photographic adventure at Galata Restaurant.
After days on the road, we gather once again around a special farewell dinner, enjoying local specialties and Galata Restaurant’s signature dishes in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
After dinner, the evening continues with live music and a special performance.
Surrounded by photographs, stories, music, and good food, we celebrate the experiences we have shared across Western Mongolia.
Overnight: Bayan-Ölgii

Depending on your flight schedule, we will begin the morning with a short photographic walk through Bayan-Ölgii.
This is our final opportunity to capture the atmosphere of the city, local people, streets, and everyday life before transferring you to the airport.
You will leave Western Mongolia with more than photographs.
You will leave with stories to tell, people to remember, and experiences that will stay with you long after the journey ends.
Every Mon Altai photography journey begins and ends at Galata Restaurant.
On the first day, we welcome our guests with a traditional breakfast and an introduction to the rich culinary culture of Western Mongolia before setting out on the road.
At the end of the journey, we return to Galata Restaurant for a special farewell evening featuring a carefully prepared dinner and live music.
For us, a great journey is about more than the places we visit and the photographs we capture.
It is also about good food, beautiful music, warm-hearted people, shared stories, laughter, and unforgettable memories created together.
From the first breakfast to the final farewell, Galata Restaurant is where our journey begins — and where our memories come together.
